Our Pal's Place is committed to working with fellow rescue groups to help animals in need. Jake is an example of how important it is for rescue groups to work together... Members of Golden Retriever Rescue were committed to helping Jake but needed a non-breed-specific rescue group to help. OPP's Sandy Adcock was contacted. After meeting and assessing Jake, she reported to OPP's intake committee that we could help Jake find his self-confidence and his "forever home"! Jake had been on the streets for quite some time, carrying a chain around his neck. He was very shy so the people who came to his rescue had to work long and hard to get him to safety. Once in a foster home, Jake's foster dad helped Jake learn to trust. Now OPP is providing Jake housing, TLC from our volunteers and training from Sandy and our other K9 coaches. Together with Jake's sponsors, Daryl Howell, Lisa Ferestad and Lenora Pharr, we will make sure Jake's heartworms are cured and he finds a great home. Jake is a beautiful dog who has a sweet, fun-natured spirit which shines when he knows he is in a safe environment. We hope you will come meet this sweet soul! Tifton is a puppyish one-year-old who is affectionate, feisty, and playful. She loves attention and will dance all around to get you to notice her. She gets along fine with the other dogs in her fosterhome, but she does like to bark at dogs she meets in public and will pull hard on the leash to try to go meet them. She ignores the cat in her fosterhome. Tif is just now learning basic obedience commands, but she is already reliably housetrained and does know how to use a doggie door. She is also learning what things are appropriate to chew on or not. (The telephone cable is NOT.) She very much wants to please and she learns quickly. Tif hasn't yet met very young children, but she is gentle with older ones and isn't easily irritated so would probably do fine. She loves people, and when she meets someone new, her tail wags so hard it will beat out a rhythm on nearby furniture or your shins. The grown son tried to take a steak bone out of Lucy's mouth and she snapped at him. So the grown son went for his gun…no dog is going to snap at me, he was reported to have said. Thankfully, the mother stepped in and stopped her son, and then called Susan Brumbelow, Director of Training & Education at OPP, for assistance. Susan had been training Lucy for a while and was making great progress! Susan deemed it in Lucy's best interest to find her a new home. So, Lucy will be at OPP on the weekends for adoptions and remain in her current home during the week (OPP is very full right now). Lucy is shy at first, but quickly warms up to you. She loves to go for walks, wiggle on her back in the grass and go for car rides - especially when you are taking her for ice cream! Lucy will do better in a home with older children.
